What is Chatty Running?

In this video we define what Chatty running is and talk about why it’s the best way to train.

The aim of our weekly videos over the next few weeks is to give you a highlight of what we have included in the Chatty Sparkly Running Book.

Chatty running is conversational running where you can talk comfortably in full sentences while you run. You may feel a little ‘breathy’ during the first few minutes but this should settle quite quickly.

Chatty pace should be gentle, relaxed and fun. We never call it slow as for some runners Chatty pace for them will be very speedy! So why is Chatty Running the Best Way to Train?

It’s Enjoyable

Because Chatty running is relaxed and easy it’s enjoyable and if it’s enjoyable you will want to do more of it. The more you do the fitter and faster you will become.

It Promotes Good Health

Running at Chatty pace stimulates the body to produce more mitochondria in your cells. Think of these as little energy factories. The more you have of them, the more energy you will have. Therefore, chatty running gives you more energy to enjoy life in general.

It Will Help You Run Faster

When you run at this easy Chatty pace your body is using oxygen to generate the energy you need to run. By running Chatty you are training your body to use oxygen efficiently and enabling it to use more oxygen. The more oxygen your body can use the quicker you will be able to run.

So Go Ahead and Give it a Try

If you run at a gentle Chatty pace you will finish your run feeling like you haven’t worked hard at all and you’ll have more energy than when you started. Colin often calls it ‘all day’ pace to help runners key into just how gentle it needs to be. Don’t be afraid to walk if you need to.

Next week we will give you some tips to help you stay Chatty as you run. In the meantime you can find us on Facebook or Instagram .
