Colin talks about the three things runners need to know in order to improve.
Social media has been full of advice for runners in the last few months. Articles telling you the top five, six or ten things you need to know as a runner.
This week Colin offers his own take on this with a Chatty Sparkly top three things you need to know to improve your running.
1. Know what pace to run at.
You need to know what pace you are running at and why you are running at that pace. This was why we started Chatty Sparkly Runners. Knowing how to run at Chatty pace is important as it is the foundation of all your running and the more Chatty paced running you do, the faster you will become. Faster paces are also important later and you will need to know when and how often to run at these paces.
2. Know how to build up your running.
If you want to get faster you need to know how much to increase your running by so that you don’t overload your body. It’s common for runners, especially those new to the sport to want to suddenly add extra runs or run much further. Many runners don’t realise how gradually you need to build up. The longer you have been running and the more you are doing already, the bigger the increase your body will cope with.
3. Know when you have recovered.
It isn’t when you are out running that your body is getting fitter and stronger. It’s over the next day or two when your body starts to adapt, making sure that it gets stronger ready for the next time you run the increased distance. Knowing when you have recovered is key so that you don’t end up overstressing the body and risking injury or illness.
All of these three things will be covered in more detail in upcoming videos.
